Is It Worth It?

One question we should always be vigilant to ask ourselves in every situation is, “Is it worth it?”  All actions have consequences whether good or bad.  It’s how we choose to embrace those consequences that determines our character.  When you are shopping and impulse tempts you to buy that must-have item that puts you over your spending budget, ask yourself if it’s worth it.  When you come home ravenously hungry and are tempted to eat the cookie before you grab a real meal, ask yourself if the extra calories are worth it.  When someone steps on your last nerve and your mouth seems to have a mind of it’s own that functions separately from your brain, ask yourself if the damage that could result from your comment is worth it.  When helping someone else presents a tangible personal cost to you, ask yourself if doing the right thing is important enough to you to be worth the price you will pay.  When you’re tempted to sleep in on Sunday morning rather than go to church, ask yourself if the extra rest is worth the disappointment God will experience when you don’t show up.  Most importantly, ask yourself if it’s worth it to not do the godly thing in whatever situation comes your way in life.  I can tell you, it’s not.
