Replacements

Human nature compels us to gravitate towards the known. The unknown may hold wonderful possibilities, but it can also be a threat to the “safe place” we all hold so dear. Fiercely clinging to your comfort zone may be the right choice if your comfort zone is the right place for you in your life, but what about when what you have is only good enough? Good enough should never be the standard a Christian strives to achieve. God wants to grow you into new and exciting places, but He can only do that if you first choose to let go of the old. Make room for the new gifts God has for you by letting go of anything in your life that doesn’t represent God’s best for your life. When your car starts to age and it’s time to buy a replacement vehicle, do you keep the old car and still get a new one? Most likely, you sell or trade the old car in for a new car. By letting go of the old car, you put yourself in a position to receive the new car. When your running shoes wear out, look dirty, and are falling apart at the seams, do you cling to every pair you have ever worn out and continue to buy new pairs as time goes on? Hopefully not, or you would eventually need a special closet just to warehouse a bunch of smelly, useless, unwearable shoes. Common sense dictates that it’s necessary to throw out the old shoes to make room for the new pair that actually has a viable purpose in your life.  Holding on to the old can hold you back from the good that God wants to bring into your life.  If something is the wrong match for you in your life, don’t hold onto it just because you don’t know what the replacement will be.  Act in faith by letting go, and then, let God decide how He wants to fill the hole.  Whatever He brings to you will be better than what you released.  What do you need to let go of today?
